Authors: Jay Liu

The 2018 Chengdu Spring Festival Shopping Fair, organized by the Chengdu Municipal Government and sponsored jointly by many local government departments, wrapped up on January 28.
Statistics show that the 39-day shopping event starting from December 21, 2017, involved over 1,000 markets and stores, as well as 200 companies from Chengdu's 22 districts /cities/counties, and realized a gross sales volume of RMB26.8 billion.
71.2 Million People Spent RMB26.8 Billion
The service industry in Chengdu has been developing rapidly over the recent years. The city was labeled by international agencies as the best business city in western China and the best city for business in China. According to incomplete statistics, Chengdu has been home to more than 200 stores of over 100 international brands, ranking third in the country only after Beijing and Shanghai. The capital city of Sichuan Province realized a total sales of consumer goods amounting to over RMB640 billion in 2017, ranking second among 15 sub-provincial cities in China.
According to findings from a special survey, the shopping event accomplished a gross sales revenue hitting RMB26.8 billion spent by 71.2 million customers, and more than 80% participating retailers achieved a more than 20% increase in both sales and customer flow.
Made-in Chengdu Products Favored by the Market
During the fair, many local government departments worked closely together to show and promote various goods made locally, in hopes of expanding the market reach and influence of made-in-Chengdu products.
From December 21 to 23, 2017, 86 companies showed their innovation-driven and culturally creative products at a joint exhibition taking place at the central business district around the hustling and bustling Chunxi Road, attracting lots of locals and tourists, who spent a total of RMB1.65 million at the 3-day session.
So far, Chengdu has been home to over 4,500 brand convenience stores, including more than 400 24/7 ones, which are scattered throughout the urban and rural areas in the city.
