Recently，a piece of Haicai Qiang (Haicai Tune) performed by a Naxi ethnic student went viral on internet. The student is from Yunnan Normal University. After she posted the MV of her Haicai Tune on Weibo, it was forwarded widely and gained a number of views.
Haicai Tune literally means 弌 tune of the edible seaweed in Chinese and it is a folk art of the Yi people living southeast Yunnan𠏋 Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture. The Yi people created the tune for praising love, nature and their home.
In 2006, the Haicai Tune was listed in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritages. For a long time, it is recognized as a bel canto opera among ethnic groups. The tune is not only popular among Yi people, but also learned by people from other ethnic groups in Yunnan.
In the MV, the tune is coupled with sights of famed Yunnan tourist attractions such as the Dianchi Lake, the Yulong Snow Mountain, the blooming rape flower, and the Hani terraced fields. Enjoy it!
