Authorities in Guangdong arrange free return trips for migrant workers in Yunnan back to work
2/22/2021

Local authorities in south China's Guangdong Province arranged chartered trains to help migrant workers return to their workplaces after the Spring Festival holiday, which concluded on Wednesday.

A chartered train for migrant workers arrived at Guangzhou South Railway Station on Saturday, carrying more than 600 migrant workers from various cities in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

Upon their arrival at the railway station, buses were arranged by Guangzhou human resources and social security department to send them to their companies.

"The local governments in our hometown recommended us to take these trains. Last year we took the train for free as well," said Li Zhonghua, a migrant worker from Yunnan Province.

This year, some companies in Guangdong resumed their operation at an earlier date, and the demand for labor resources continued to rise, according to staff working at Guangdong human resources and social security department.

To meet their needs, relevant departments in Guangdong strengthened communication and cooperation with other provinces, including provinces of Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi and Sichuan, listed the name of migrant workers need to return to their workplaces, and helped arrange special trains that enabled migrant workers to go directly to their workplaces.

"It's good! Thanks to the government, it's convenient for us to come together, and we can also save money. It's great," said Cha Yuhong, one of the migrant workers.

Local authorities in cities of Guangdong Province started to arrange special trains and planes since the third and fourth day of the first month on Chinese lunar calendar.

Up to now, Guangdong Province has launched 571 special trains and eight special planes to help migrant workers resume work, transporting more than 22,000 employees in nearly 180 key enterprises in the province.
