Chinas 1st all sea depth high-resolution camera completed upgrade in Qingdao

Haitong, the 1st all sea depth high-resolution camera of China, upgraded its function recently after completing the 11,000m deep-sea test in 2017. It now can work as long as 62 hours, 6 times than before. This August upgraded Haitong will start its exploration journey in deep sea from Qingdao.

After achieving success in 11,000m deep-sea test, Haitong team of National Laboratory of Marine Sciences and Technology (Qingdao) did improvement on camera functions. On one hand, they developed even smaller deep-sea camera. The 1st generation Haitong, with 133mm diameters, is 386mm long. While new generation camera, with 80mm diameter, is 170mm long, only half of previous generation product. It can work with more types of underwater diving devices. On the other hand, they did functional improvement to current size Haitong, added control function, upgrade past setting procedure to remote control, which enables remote control from the ship. Meanwhile, the new Haitong can work as long as 62 hours underwater without stopping, instead of 10 hours previously, extended 6 times, provides stronger support to deep-sea exploration. (Wang Ping)
